The Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University is an ideal place for anyone who is interested in social issues and wants to make a contribution to a better future. Our faculty offers a broad and diverse range of courses. The complex social structures and processes of our society are at the heart of every degree programme.
Students have the opportunity to complete both Bachelor's and Master's courses, as well as doctoral programmes. The size of the faculty offers scope for broad development of interests as well as individual specialisation. We also offer a wide range of opportunities to gain international experience. Below you will find an overview of the Faculty's degree programmes and accompanying programmes.
As a place of study, Bielefeld offers a social science microcosm of enormous diversity, where every student can find courses (electronic course catalogue (ekvv)) that match their own interests and inclinations. In addition to the current events calendar, there are many facilities that will help you in your everyday study life or when working on your thesis. These include, for example, the media lending service, the internshipoffice, the methods lab or the faculty's PC pools. Here you will find the right technical tools to help you conduct interviews or collect and analyse statistical data.
If you want to find out more about the university, the faculty and everyday student life, you can contact your departmental student representative committee at and get to know nice people. The Sozcafé in X-C2-116 also offers you a cosy place for meetings, music and, of course, coffee. People with a passion for writing or photography are also very welcome at the student magazine SOZusagen.
Last but not least, there are also a number of interesting student groups at the university that deal with political, economic, social/charitable and cultural issues. Friends of physical activity will most likely find their happiness in one of the diverse courses of the university sports programme.
